Zendaya is set to star and produce in a new movie "A White Lie." The film is based on Anita Hemmings, who is the first black woman to graduate from Vassar College.

The film will be based on Karin Tanabe’s book, "The Gilded Years." According to Variety, this new film will be set in the 1890s telling the true story of how Hemmings was the descendant of slaves and passed as white to attend Vassar College. She was even treated as a wealthy, educated white woman. Close to graduation, Hemmings' roommate grew suspicious of her race and told her father. Her father did some research and found out who she really was and reported her to school officials.  Although the school was informed, they still let Anita Hemmings graduate a few weeks after finding out.

The film will be written by Monica Beletsky and produced by Reese Witherspoon alongside Zendaya and Lauren Neustadter.
